Scott County taxpayers should not be treated as an open checkbook for state and federal budget shortfalls.

• Fight Unfunded State Mandates: Strongly oppose efforts by the Minnesota Legislature to shift the financial burden of state-mandated programs (like SNAP administration shifts or new human services requirements) onto local property tax levies. If the state mandates a program, the state must fund it.

• Targeted Budget Discipline: Conduct thorough reviews of county spending to eliminate operational redundancies. Focus county resources strictly on essential outcomes over bureaucratic processes.

• Protect Local Taxpayers: Commit to keeping the county portion of property taxes stable by leveraging smart economic growth and demanding modernization of inefficient state-run IT systems that waste local staff time.

Safe neighborhoods and dependable infrastructure are the bedrock of a thriving county. When a resident calls for help or drives to work, they deserve excellence.

• Back Our Local Law Enforcement: Ensure the Scott County Sheriff’s Office and local public safety departments have the robust training, equipment, and retention support necessary to keep our communities secure.

• Proactive Mental Health Support: Expand and successfully manage school-linked mental health services. By addressing youth mental health early and on-site, we support families and reduce long-term strain on our justice and emergency response systems.

• Infrastructure That Keeps Pace: Prioritize the annual maintenance, striping, and paving of vital county highways and trails. Our rapid growth demands roads that are safe, clear in the winter, and built to last.

Scott County uniquely blends bustling suburban hubs with rich agricultural and rural landscapes. We need to manage growth so that businesses can expand without destroying our county’s heritage.

• Cut Red Tape for Local Businesses: Streamline the county zoning, permitting, and licensing processes to support small business owners, digital entrepreneurs, and local employers.

• Support the Agricultural Economy: Partner with our rural townships to protect valuable farmland, support conservation efforts, and ensure our ranching and farming communities are represented as equal partners in county planning.

• Enhance Parks and Natural Spaces: Maintain and responsibly manage Scott County’s beautiful lakes, regional parks, and trails, ensuring they remain premier destinations for fishing, recreation, and family life.

County government works for you. Decisions shouldn't happen behind closed doors or wrapped in confusing bureaucratic jargon.

• Outcome-Based Government: Implement clear performance tracking for county services. If a county program isn't delivering measurable results for residents, it should be reformed or cut.

• Accessible Leadership: Commit to transparent, responsive communication through regular public updates, accessible board data, and an open-door policy for all residents, from Shakopee and Savage to Belle Plaine and New Prague.
